We're Worth the Ride!

Many of us find ourselves in need of a home office space for one reason or another.  Sometimes it may be a change in careers or job description that allows us to work from home more, or maybe it would just make working from home more convenient.

7 Steps to Design your own Home Office Workstation

When you work with one of our designers to create your personal workstation, we will help you determine on the following:

  1. Work Space Layout
  2. Desk Base and Lower Storage
  3. Hutch Top and Upper Storage
  4. Accessories
  5. Wood Species and Color
  6. Door, Molding, and Trim Style
  7. Hardware

When creating your own personalized workstation, it is key to know your room dimensions so that you can maximize your space.  It’s very helpful for the designer working with you if you bring in a simple sketch of your room including all doors and windows.

A couple pictures of the space can be extremely beneficial as well since that will allow the designer to see the space that they are working with.

Take a moment to think about how you might function in the space (ie: computer location, phone location, printer location, etc), and then the storage that will be essential for productivity.

Again our designers will be there to walk you through all of this, but it’s helpful if you have given it a bit of thought before you come in.

1. Work Space Layout

This is where it all starts.  This is the foot print of the entire space.

Is your space fairly small and a simple desk is all that you need?

Would a split space be a better option for you?

Or, do need or prefer a full office suite that gives you multiple work areas and the option to have more than one person working in the area at a time?

2. Desk Base and Lower Storage

You’ve chosen how your work space is going to be laid out, and now we need to discuss how the base cabinets and desk will fit into the area you’ve designed.

This is where we will consider where your computer will be housed, where your printer will live, where your files will be stored, etc.

Based on the needs that you share with us, we will help you determine how many and what style of file cabinets you will need, or where some lower shelving may be handy to have.

You may also consider an additional writing peninsula or splitting the space up a bit.  Your wishes become our inspiration!

3. Hutch Top and Upper Storage

Once your base layout has been determined, we can now proceed to the top portion of the desk.  How do you plan to use this space?

Do you want to hide things behind wooden doors, or would you rather have some glass doors to display some of your favorite collections?

How about some doors and additional open shelves?

This is all about creating the perfect space for you!

4. Accessories

There’s no one way to stay organized.  Every person’s habits and space is a little different than the next guy’s.  That’s why we have additional accessories to streamline your workstation and keep your life as efficient as possible.

You choose the accessories, and we’ll help you figure out where they will fit in your desk configuration.

5. Wood Species and Color

What would you say goes best in your space or fits your personality?  Is it the traditional feel of stained oak, the rich tones of deep stained cherry wood, or would you prefer to pick a paint color that you like?

Maybe you’d rather shake it up a bit by mixing and matching paint and stain colors…

Either way, we will help you pick a solid hard wood species that your work station will be constructed of, and the color that you like best.

6. Door, Molding, & Trim Style

Modern, Mission, Shaker, Classic…?  How would you describe your style?  No matter what you decide, we have a door style, molding, and trim that will compliment any space.
