Everything You Need to Know About High Dining
High dining is the newest craze to take over trendy dining room décor. With all of the different styles and shapes of kitchen furniture, it can be hard to tell the difference between counter height, bar height, and bistro. To fully understand high dining, we first need to review the different styles currently in household rotation.

Three Main Styles of Kitchen Tables
Generally speaking, a table will typically require a set of chairs that is about 12 inches shorter than the surface of the table itself. We are able to categorize different kitchen table heights into three main groups: standard table height, counter height, and pub height.

Standard table height is considered to be between 29-30 inches. This is most likely what you currently have in your home, or the height of the tables you would have grown up with. While this is a common and comfortable style of seating, it’s slowly moving out of popularity.
Counter height tables are the perfect middle ground. Nestled in at around 34-36 inches tall, these tables are a nice medium height. These tables are good for families with older children, as the counter height chairs, stools, and benches will be about 24 inches from floor to seat.
Pub height, also known as bar height or bistro, are our high dining tables. You will commonly see these in restaurants, often closest to the bar area. These tables will be 40-42 inches tall and have stools about 30 inches tall to match. Pub style tables are versatile and fashionable which make them of high interest since they can fit nicely into a wide variety of different style homes.

Perks of Pub Style Dining
Pub style dining is great for all different styles of homes. Whether you are looking for a black kitchen table set, or a cool grey, pub style lifts up your existing style with sophistication. With many different varieties at this height, including round and rectangle tables, finding a table to suit the needs of a small household or large family is no problem.
Having chairs that match your table height makes all the difference. While you can purchase table and chair sets, you can also be more adventurous and match-make your own set. Be sure to pick compatible sizes to make for a stylish, and comfortable, seating area. For our lovely pub or bistro height tables, you’d want to select chairs that are about 28-30 inches in height for that perfect fit.
A high top table set like this is also ideal for those of us who may be working from home. More often than not, a solid hardwood table with comfortable seating to pair can make the world of a difference – and can double as a makeshift desk for your “home office” as needed.
